gatekeeper

1 Chronicles 25-27

1 Chron. 9:17 The gatekeepers:
       Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their brothers, Shallum their chief 18 being stationed at the King's Gate on the east, up to the present time. These were the gatekeepers belonging to the camp of the Levites. 19 Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his fellow gatekeepers from his family (the Korahites) were responsible for guarding the thresholds of the Tent just as their fathers had been responsible for guarding the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD. 20 In earlier times Phinehas son of Eleazar was in charge of the gatekeepers, and the LORD was with him. 21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

1 Chron. 26:1 The divisions of the gatekeepers:
       From the Korahites: ...

As I was reading about all of King David's appointments for service in and around the Lord's Temple that Solomon would build, I was reminded of one of the psalms (actually written by the descendants of Korah, which makes it even sweeter!):

Psalm 84:10 Better is one day in your courts
       than a thousand elsewhere;
       I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
       than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

What does it mean to be a "gatekeeper" in the Church?  I don't think it means keeping certain people out!  Rather, we should be showing people the way and inviting people to come in and dine with the King!

Heavenly Father, thank you for inviting me into your presence through the person and work of Christ.  Lord Jesus, please purify my heart, mind, and will to please you.  Holy Spirit, please give me opportunities and boldness to share the Good News about Jesus - The Gate to the Father!  You are so good and kind!  Lord, please use me to share your goodness and blessing with the nations that they may know how wonderful you are.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, The Gate.  Amen.
