I think it is interesting that Judah (not the firstborn) was the brother that volunteered to Joseph to be kept as a slave on behalf of Benjamin. I think it is also interesting that Judah (not the firstborn) was the first tribe to offer dedication sacrifices after the Tabernacle and altar were constructed. Of course, (it seems to me) that these instances are types of Christ, who is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah!
And then there is this, seemingly tangential note at the end of chapter seven:
7:89 Whenever Moses went into the Tabernacle to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the Ark's cover—the place of atonement—that rests on the Ark of the Covenant. The Lord spoke to him from there.
Isn't that awesome! If Moses could hear God audibly, then shouldn't we (who have been cleansed by Christ's eternal sacrifice and who have the Holy Spirit within us) be able to "hear" from God through our spirits? This is very encouraging to me to pray to the Lord and expect Him to answer.
Heavenly Father, you are good, and you are holy. You are righteous and mighty. You are merciful and faithful. You are eternal and unknowable. But you have revealed yourself to us through your Scriptures, through Christ, through your Holy Spirit, and through your Church. Lord, thank you for the sacrifice of Christ, which washes away my sins and allows me to enter your presence. Oh Lord, I want to hear you speak! Lord, please speak through my spirit! Lord, please cleanse my heart and my mind, and may I respond in obedience to your voice. I love you, Lord. I pray that I will be your servant today. May it be to me according to your Word. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
