anticipation

Matthew 1-2, 1 Thessalonians 1

Just a few more weeks before our son arrives!  I am observing an amplification of two signals (one positive, and one negative):

(+) Brandi and I are eager to see him, hold him, and love him.
(–) The discomforts of pregnancy are exacerbated in the final stages.

Perhaps there are some spiritual parallels.  As we continue to walk with Christ by faith, our anticipate His return amplifies because we long to see Him and fellowship with Him perfectly.  Simultaneously, the world is progressively more evil and hostile towards God.

1 Th. 1:2 We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. 3 As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ. ... 8 And now the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere, even beyond Macedonia and Achaia, for wherever we go we find people telling us about your faith in God. We don't need to tell them about it, 9 for they keep talking about the wonderful welcome you gave us and how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God. 10 And they speak of how you are looking forward to the coming of God's Son from heaven—Jesus, whom God raised from the dead. He is the one who has rescued us from the terrors of the coming judgment.

In essence, our longing for Christ's return is a driver for the way we live our lives.

Heavenly Father, please help me consciously think about Christ and His return.  Lord, I want to seek first your Kingdom and righteousness.  Lord Jesus, please help me serve you today - living in expectation of your return.  May you find me obedient and faithful, but it is only by your grace.  I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Amen.
