5 But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.
6 He made heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them.
He keeps every promise forever.
7 He gives justice to the oppressed
and food to the hungry.
The Lord frees the prisoners.
8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down.
whose hope is in the Lord their God.
Why does that sound like Isaiah 61:1-3?
If that is what God is doing, and if that is what Christ quoted as His mission statement in Luke 4:18-19, and if the Church is Christ's continued incarnation, then why isn't the Church (especially congregations in the USA) characterized by these verses?
Heavenly Father, I praise you because of your goodness, your good plan, and your good work. Lord, thank you for the opportunity to be involved in your work. Please help us see your vision for the Church, and lead us to live bold lives of obedience. May the Holy Spirit empower us to be your hands and feet. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, whose hands and feet took nails for us. Amen.
